Botántica 10:01 2020
‘Bótanica’ is an observational film that uses the camera as a tool to witness and listen to the natural world. Using simple still compositions of botanical life, this film presents some striking visual elements of plant life for the viewer to meditate on.
Some curiosities that arise from the filmmaker are: what relationship does the camera have to its subjects? What does it mean to replicate and represent non-human forms, organic forms, within a digital and disembodied context? What happens when you isolate the visual element from it's natural environment - cutting it off from touch, smell and taste? How does the pace of a film relate to attention span and the timescale of non-human entities?
